The US celebrates Memorial Day over this weekend. It is a time to reflect on those who gave their lives for our freedom. It has evolved in to a time to care for all of our lost loved ones.
We have lost many loved ones along this road. The most beloved, the most mourned, are my grandparents. I miss them still. I mourn for my children, who wont get the chance to have my Grandma and Grandpa McGarry in their own lives. Duck was not even one when we lost my grandfather, and my grandmother followed a couple years behind him. My sons have awesome grandparents of their own, but none could ever be like the ones we all lost.
So, my memorial day tribute is to my grandparents; still loved. Always missed.

Pats on the back for you, Mom.
I wish your kids had known your Grandparents, too!
The sadness that surrounds Memorial Day and the loss of lives in the fight for our freedoms, is probably the only day (Except Veterans Day..) that honors those individuals who lost their lives while fighting for our country. I have always thought it a very solemnn contemplative day..a day to give thanks to all those that fought for our freedoms and died for the preservation of those freedoms...I never thought it was about Bar-B-Q's, and Beer, and Partying...(as my neighbors did yesterday...)
I understand honoring those we have lost who were dear to us--as you have honored your dear Grandparents--what I do not understand is "Celebrating" Memorial Day with a party that has nothing to do with honoring anything but the next drink. Do you get that?
thanks for this my dear... it should also be a moment to stop and reflect on the mechanisms through which the madness could take place and destroy so many innocent lives...
we need to bring society back to basics, to be able to see and understand the needs of those around us and once we've done that, we can see that the world around us isn't much different either, full of deficient and incomplete people who are being manipulated by governments to fight wars which are not their own, and not even in their own interests... freedom is such a wonderful concept and worth dying for, but it should not be the manipulative farce we've seen in the course of the 20th century...
i honour and respect the individuals who serve/served with full conviction, i reject, i despise the governments and economic systems that deliver the most able and worthy in society to the alter of corporate and "national" needs...
please forgive my cynicism, it's an issue i've been dealing with for at least the last 30 years and it won't let met go...
keep well...
