Hummingbird season

My mom got this picture of a hummingbird in her back yard.
Look at the great green in her wings! She's a little cutie.
The hummingbirds have been coming in for a few weeks now.
In fact, we are heading over there now to:
feed some birds,
chase some cats,
gaze into the pond seeking fish,
smell some flowers,
search out some late blooming strawberries,
pick an apple,
maybe go "wee" on the swing with grandpa.
It is always an adventure when we go to grandmas.

My bird book says what your Mom has got there is a rufous hummer. Pretty common in Willamette Valley, but nevertheless rare for beauty.

Very impressive pic. It's pretty hard to get those little nippers to stop flying long enough to get a closeup like this! Michele sent me tonight. Hope you have a great visit.
